The third edition of the only underwater filmfestival of The Netherlands took place from November 6 till November 8 at Studio/K, Timorplein, Amsterdam. The date for the 2010 edition is not set yet.
The festival organisation found the ideal festival location in Studio/K, hosting a foyer with room for information booths, a video installation and the exposition of Marine Squares. And, also important, Studio/K has an in-house restaurant and bar.
The festival was in the luxury position that many more films were offered than could possibly be screened over a weekend. It is well clear that creative filmmakers produced films on surprising subjects. The organisation was very pleased to be able to screen the National Geographic world première on the serie Watercolours - with a.o. Fisheye Illusion - produced by Guy en Anita Chaumette.
Filmthemes were divers. Nature and environment are represented as a matter-of-course, but animated films and a short thriller were new to the festival.
The festival also screened a panorama programme with films which relate to the festival concept. Screening of
The End of the Line, a children matinee on Sunday and a filmblock dedicated to The Big Five of the underwaterworld. The festival succeeded to be more than a plain film watching event.
